FIRE SERVICE IN PORTO RICO.

FIRE SERVICE IN PORTO RICO.

John McElroy, of the S. F. Haywood company, of 20 Warren street, Manhattan, recently returned from a leisure trip in Porto Rico. He reports the fire service there in a very crude condition, except in San Juan, where the department is about equal to one of our good volunteer systems. Few places have any waterworks, in fact, there are only two cities along the Military road that have any claim to anything bearing that title. While in San Juan, Mr. McElroy was successful in obtaining an order for the entire equipment of the place with American fire apparatus and supplies.
