The fire service of the country grows so rapidly every year that there seems always to be an opening for new manufacturers of apparatus and supplies. One of the latest firms organised to manufacture fire appliances is that of RobartCarleton Co., of Boston. It makes a specialty of ceiling springs, spreaders and hames and collars. The spring is light, yet very strong, and has the advantage of being easily handled; while tne “spreader” has the improvement of being able to be either tripped from the seat of the apparatus or floor of fire station. The other specialties of the company are described in its catalogue, which may be had for the asking. The portrait herewith is that of H. M. Carleton, who takes charge of the outside work of the firm.
