Fire Threatens Truman Cavalcade

A tense moment of the fireworks celebration given President Truman during his political visit to Jersey City. N. J. on the night of Oct. 7, came when sparks from one of the six different displays set fire to paper decorations on an automobile carrying Mrs. Truman and Representative Mary T. Norton.

Secret service officers tore the decorations from the car and hurled them to the ground white Mrs. Truman and Miss Norton beat at the embers that were smoldering on their clothes.
