Firefighters Battle Wildfire Near Hood River

Fire crews battling a stubborn and smoky wildfire near Hood River (OR) continued work on containment, reports KATU News.

The fire, known as the Milepost 66 fire, is 15 percent contained and remains at 70 acres in size.

Crews have established good boundaries on the west and east borders of the fire and over 100 firefighters from multiple agencies are on the ground with assistance from two helicopters.

The fire jumped over Highway 30 early Wednesday morning and headed for more standing timber on private land near the Mark Hatfield Trail but no structures were threatened, Forest Service officials said. The trail is closed while crews operate in the area.
