Fireman Dies—Others Injured
Four firemen were seriously injured, and another died after admittance to a hospital, when the roof of a one-story frame building at the plant of the New England Auto Body Works on Wooster Street, New Haven, Conn., on March 9, collapsed while firemen were fighting a fire inside the structure.
A hoseman died of a fractured skull after being rushed to the hospital.
The blaze had been brought under control when the roof, covered with nearly a foot of snow, caved in. Firemen and spectators lifted portions of the roof so that the trapped victims could be brought out: Fireman McGarry was dragged out when a resident of the district crawled on his stomach into the wreckage to reach him.
