Firemen May be Used for City Work
Either the firemen of Enid, Okla., will do the work they are called upon to do by the city or they will be dismissed from the fire department. This ultimatum was made by the mayor to settle the action that was started at one of the city’s fire stations.
The mayor stated that he had written to the heads of other fire departments and that it was the custom to employ firemen on other city work when not actually engaged in fighting fires, Firemen have been used as carpenters, plasterers, and plumbers. However, the men are prohibited from engaging in work outside of their regular hours for monetary gain. It was claimed that several of the men had side lines in addition to their regular duties.
