Firemen Mortally Hurt

Racing to the same fire in Ridge avenue, Brooklyn, a few nights ago, Acting Battalion Chief Edward Connolly, in his fast, light run-about, and Hook and Ladder Motor Truck 156 both turned into Lorimer street at the same time, at the dangerous crossways where Lorimer and Berry streets and Manhattan avenue meet. The truck struck the runabout with such force that it was crumbled into a twisted mass, while the chief and his driver, Matthew Robinson, were thrown 10 feet. Both men had their skulls fractured and both are said to be dying at St. Catherine’s Hospital. Connolly had charge of the Thirty-fifth Battalion district, and lives at 131 Bedford avenue, Brooklyn. He is 33 years old. Robinson is 17 years old. The tire that led to this accident was a little blaze in the factory of Meyer & Danowitz. manufacturers of sashes and blinds. It did only $100 damage.
