Five St. Petersburg Firefighters Sue Over Helmets

Five current and former St. Petersburg firefighters are suing over their city-issued helmets, saying the gear gave them head and neck injuries, reports the Tampa Bay Times (http://on.wtsp.com/1E1AY9z)

Their product liability lawsuit against the helmets’ maker and distributor claims the helmets are badly designed, heavier, and not as balanced as previous models, their lawyer Jim Magazine told the Times, comparing the helmets to bobblehead dolls.

The men worked for St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, but the city is not named as a defendant in the lawsuit, Magazine said, because city supervisors did not have knowledge of any defective design issues. The current fire chief told the Times he’s had no complaints about the helmets from his firefighters.
