FLOODS IN THE OHIO VALLEY.
Now that the floods have subsided in the Ohio valley, the details that have come to hand show that the various insurance companies have suffered heavy losses, owing to the number of special fire hazards, due to the high water. In many cases the water reached buildings which were supposed to be above the limit, starting fires through coming in contact with lime and other substances. In a number of instances, also, fires were started in the submerged district and were total losses, because the fire department was utterly unable to reach the scene.
