In 1995, two of the major institutions in the fire service were united when PennWell, the mother company of Fire Engineering, acquired the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC). At last, the firefighting world’s premier training magazine was joined with the industry’s premier training conference.
In an ad from a 1995 issue of Fire Engineering, Publisher Henry Dinneen commented on the fortuitous merger. “The FDIC is regarded as the premier fire service training and educational event in the United States for good reason: Over the years it has become the annual meeting place for serious-minded paid and volunteer fire service professionals striving to improve their careers–many of whom are our Fire Engineering readers.”
