An April 6 event has been scheduled to help raise funds for a Baraboo (WI) firefighter with a terminal case of colon cancer.
Treatment for Jeff Thompson, a longtime Baraboo Fire Department volunteer and father of four, has drained his family’s bank account, according to a report from the Baraboo News Republic (http://bit.ly/135B1je).
After several rounds of chemotherapy since his October 2011 cancer diagnosis, doctors told Thompson he may not have long to live. Still, Thompson and his wife are holding out hope for a cure. The time and money required for treatment has eaten up the couple’s finances and paid time off from work.
As a 25-year veteran and captain of the department’s ladder company, Thompson isn’t capable of roof work or such strenuous duties, but he still makes fire calls.
