Good Averages for Nott Engines.
The excellent showing made by the Nott engine, No. 71 in the New York fire department, tested with all of the other steam fire engines in Greater New York by the engineers and experts of the National Board of Fire Underwriters, has been commented upon. This engine was given a rating of 130 per cent.—30 per cent, over perfect average—and the three Nott engines Nos. 71, 60 and 36 received a general average of 118 2/3 per cent.—18 2/3 per cent, over perfect average of too per cent. The record made by engine No. 71 was 16 per cent, higher than the highest average of any engine tested.
At a small fire in the cellar of the City hotel, London, Out.. Assistant Foreman W. H. Seccomber was suffocated. On being” missed, he was found lying dead on the floor.
