GOOD FIRE WORK BY WOMEN.
The women of Middlebtirv, Ind., distinguished themselves the other day, when their village was threatened with destruction by fire. There was no firefighting apparatus, and the nearest towns that could send help were at a considerable distance. The women, however, were equal to the occasion. As the flames sperad and the situation became perilous too of them seized buckets, organised a fire brigade and carried water for three hours in a brave effort to save their homes. By their heroic labor the flames were confined to the lumberyards and the factory portion of the town, For five hours the fire raged, feeding on the coal docks of the Goshen and Michigan railway. The losses aggregated about $24,000, with $7,000 insurance.
