Good Results from Wells at Winnipeg.
At Winnipeg, Man., a report has been presented showing that well No. 5, the latest well to be completed, is expected to give between 3,000,000 and 4,000,000 gal. of water daily. If the latter figure is correct, the new well will practically double the city’s water supply. Water is now being pumped from the well, but, owing to its being only a 6-in. main that connects to Manitoba avenue, it is not possible to pump to the full capacity of the well. Water is being pumped through the small main at the rate of 750,000 gal. daily, and has hardly lowered the 8o ft. of water in the well. The city engineer stated that the showing of well No. 5 is the best of all the wells to date. The supply obtained from the wells exclusive of No. 5 is as follows: No. 2, 3.500,000 gal.; No. 3, 750.000 gal.; No. 4, 1,000,000 gal,—total. 5,250,000. If No. 5 proves as good as expected, the total will be 9,000,000 gal.
