Good Water Service at Meridian.
Meridian, Miss., water authorities have just issued a report showing that the Meridian waterworks. during the three years that the cityhas owned and operated the system, has paid all operating expenses and interest on outstanding bonds, and has a net profit of $59,451.80. Various improvements in the system are now in course of construction and others are contemplated for the autumn. The latest improvement is the addition of a large settling basin at the pumping station. One of the improvements contemplated for the near future is an additional big reservoir, one that can be held in reserve. This new reservoir is to be connected with the pumping station by a main as large as the one that now runs from the present reservoir to the city, a distance of 3 miles It is proposed that the new reservoir be located just this side of the one now in use in order that the same springs may supply the water. It is said that the supply from the springs is fully sufficient to keep up a second reservoir. Meridian’s water supply is the pride of all the citizens as it has been declared by various chemi-ts to be as pure as spring water can be.
