Greenville Department Enjoys ‘Possum Supper
The Greenville, S. C., fire department enjoyed its second annual ‘possum supper the evening of Dec. 27, with Sheriff Carlos A. Rector as host. That they did it justice is evidenced by the fact that Chief F. E. Donald and others of the department, when called upon to say something, arose, and, too full for expression, remarked that they were better eaters than speakers and took their seats.
G. Heyward Mahon, former mayor of Greenville, declared that he knew of no fire department in a city of like size that compared favorably with them. “The boys of this department,” he said, “are the custodians of millions of dollars worth of property, and Greenville is to be congratulated upon having such custodians.” Senator Rroctor A. Bonham declared the record for Greenville in fire protection for 1023 was the best in eight years.
