Handling Motor Search Light Units

Combating large fires at night without the aid of some method of illumination is a serious factor. While steam search light engines are in use in some cities, with the fast motorization of departments they are passe. A useful addition to a department would be a motor search light unit designed along the lines of a motor pumping unit, equipped with dynamo instead of pump, to supply the necessary current, together with meters, rheostat and control switches. It should have two 18-inch search lights, one for concentration and one for flood rays; two six-inch hand portable search lights, one for concentration and one for flood rays; two 1,000foot sections of flexible duplex marine cable and two winding reels. Such an outfit would be a valuable asset to any modern department.
