Higher Education Seminar
A two-day seminar for discussing ways of improving fire service higher education programs will be sponsored by the International Fire Service Institute April 6 and 7 at the State University of New York at Albany.
Discussions will cover such areas as professionalism in relation to education, program development and implementation, motivation, understanding between the fire service and educational institutions, state and federal aid, independent study programs, coordination of junior and senior colleges, consideration of quality and quantity, accreditation and evaluation, college standards, recruitment and textbooks.
Among the scheduled speakers is Frank E. Oberg, director of fire service information at the Research and Education Center of the University of Minnesota, who is a former chief of the St. Paul Fire Department. He also is executive secretary of the Minnesota State Advisory Council on Fire Service Education and Research.
The keynoter for the seminar will be Dr. Irving A. Verschoor, dean of the College of General Studies at the State University of New York at Albany.
