Home Badly Damaged In Fire Call Confusion

Confusion over which fire department to call resulted in extensive damage to a one-story frame dwelling near Norfolk, Va. on December 11. The blaze was first reported to the Norfolk Fire Department which in turn called South Norfolk.

Firemen in South Norfolk dispatched an engine company but also notified the Washington District Fire Department which responded. In the meantime one room of the home was badly damaged by the fire.

Fire Chief W. L. Hollowell of Washington District said residents of the district should note where they live in the development as the fire district line parallels a street running through the subdivision. The residence is located in an area which extends over parts of South Norfolk and Norfolk County; it is also adjacent to the City of Norfolk.
