Steve Williams, long-time field instructor for the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI), was honored at the 7thAnnual St. Louis & Metropolitan Firefighters’ Appreciation Ball. Firefighters Weekend of St. Louis hosted the black tie gala event in September.
Barb Hartley with the Firefighters Weekend reached out to IFSI when she learned that Williams was named February 2014 IFSI Instructor of the Month. Williams is the longest current instructor for IFSI at nearly 45 years and teaches at IFSI’s Annual Fire College. He has retired from the Cairo, Ill. Fire Department.
“Even though Steve is from Illinois, the Missouri organizers reached across the river to recognize his contribution to the fire service,” Royal Mortenson, director for IFSI said. “Steve’s family and friends were there to celebrate with him, including a few surprise visitors from the IFSI field instructor roster.”
