Improvements in the Water Department of Akron

Superintendent H. H. Frost, of the Akron, Ohio, water works, said recently that there are 28 miles of mains in procof construction and nearing completion in that city, among other improvements contemplated and under way. The mains will have a diameter of from 6 to 30 inches. The West Hill section water consumers will benefit from improvements which have been made in the elevated tanks on Sherbondy hill. These tanks will have a capacity of 350,000 gallons. Two boilers have just been completed at the Kent pumping station. An addition to this station, 50 per cent, completed, will make possible a greatly increased pumping capacity. Funds for the work of improvement and construction are taken from the $1,000,000 voted at a special election in June, 1917. This bond issue has been relied upon to bear the brunt of expense for all improvements of the last year. Needs of the future, Mr. Frost said, will be met through an issue of $2,000,000, to be voted upon August 5 at the primaries.
