Indiana Fire Department Donates Truck to Tornado-Ravaged Alabama Department

The Bainbridge (IN) Volunteer Fire Department donated one of its apparatus to an Alabama department that lost its station to recent tornadoes that struck the region.

Bainbridge Lieutenant Kevin Thorson told the Greencastle Banner-Graphic ( that the department first had the idea of selling the truck at FDIC in Indianapolis. After learning of the tornado devastation, however, it was agreed that if another department needed the truck, they would donate it.

After researching those affected by the tornados, Chief Mark Hoke found the Kimberly (AL) Fire Department, whose station was destroyed during an April 28 tornado that also wrecked a church and middle school.

After confirming that the Kimberly Fire Department would be the one to receive the pumper truck, several Bainbridge and Pigeon Forge firefighters made the trip down to Kimberly’s temporary fire station. Local departments also donated other firefighting equipment, including turnout gear and other tools.
