Industry Group Applauds Introduction of Innovation Act

On Wednesday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), along with a bi-partisan group of Representatives, introduced a bill (HR 3309) to address the ever-increasing problem of abusive patent litigation.  iCERT commends Chairman Goodlatte and the co-sponsors for their work on this effort to address exploitations of the legal system by certain patent assertion entities, commonly referred to as patent trolls.
“iCERT shares the Chairman’s concerns about patent abuse as several of our members have been impacted by troll-based litigation, and the Innovation Act is a great first step in correcting this harmful situation,” noted George Rice, iCERT’s Executive Director. “As the leading voice for the emergency communications and response technologies industry — with members that offer products and services to protect and secure all of America’s citizens, residents and visitors — we hope Congress will appreciate the value in working with iCERT so that our national security, public safety, police, fire and emergency services will be afforded the specific relief they deserve from frivolous litigation.”
