Investigates Ohio School Hazards

State Fire Marshal H. A. Dykeman, of Ohio, has been making an investigation of the fire hazards in the schools of the cities in his state and has published his findings in the local press, arousing a storm of protest from certain quarters. In several instances the fire marshal pointed out serious conditions which might be productive of fires in the schools and which, were such fires to occur, would result in loss of life.

Seven potato houses containing 60,000 barrels of potatoes and 275 tons of hay were destroyed by fire at Mapleton, Me., on the line of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad with a loss estimated at $200,000. Three empty freight cars were also burned.
