FUNNY, isn’t it, how people, in these days of enlightenment, still fall for high-pressure salesmanship and something-for-nothing inducements?
- “Yes, sir.” says the phoney auctioneer, “just to show you my heart’s in the right place, give me a $10 bid on this $100 watch and you receive as a free gift a genuine Mexican diamond ring (a la Woolworth).” And the suckers bite.
- Where premiums lake the place of merit as a sales argument, whether its jewelry, fire equipment, magazine subscriptions or anything else, its well to check up a bit on quality. Remember, nobody in business can afford to hand out anything for nothing unless the original product is excessive in price or is proportionately lacking in merit.
