Fire in the United States caused an estimated loss of $307 million in January of this year, an increase of some $44 million above the January 1974 total, according to the Insurance Services Office. This figure represents a 17 percent increase above the January 1974 figure.

Estimated dollar losses caused by fire in the United States amounted to $175,400,000 in January, the Insurance Services Office reported.

This was a decrease of 12.6 per cent under the January, 1971, figure of $200,655,000 and a decrease of 4.5 percent below the December, 1971 total of $183,700,000, ISO said.
