York, PA – With the recent adoption of NFPA 1720*, many volunteer fire departments are concerned about how best to plan for and comply with the new standards. With this in mind, VFIS and the Volunteer & Combination Officer Section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC-VCOS) are planning a joint, two-hour Webcast at 7:00 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 that not only addresses the new standards – what they are and what they mean – but also identifies strategies and tools to help meet them.
The live Webcast can be accessed from the home page of www.vfis.com. Those who are not able to view the Webcast in real time can access the archived version at FireFighting.com, which is facilitating this Internet event. The archived version will be available for at least three months.
Participating in the Webcast are Dave Wywras, President of VFIS; Dr. William Jenaway, Executive Vice President of Emergency Services Education and Consulting Group (ESECG), a subsidiary of VFIS; Mike Chiaramonte, IAFC-VCOS Chair; and Bill Dukes, Mount Laurel Fire Chief.
The session is divided into three segments, one of which is staged at a fire station:
- Segment I considers the question, NFPA 1720: What is it? Why worry?
- Segment II identifies specific components of the standards and suggests ways to achieve them;
- Segment III reviews new NFPA 1720 tools available from IAFC – VCOS and VFIS, including reference and assessment manuals, checklists and more.
