Joliet Water Ordinance
Joliet, Ill., has passed a new water ordinance increasing the rates from a sliding scale of from twelve to five cents per 1,000 gallons, according to the amount used, to a flat rate of twenty cents per 750 gallons. Families using less than 750 cubic feet of water will not be affected by the. change in rates. The ordinance also fixes a flat rate of 25 cents ner 1,000 gallons outside of the city limits. The city expects to derive a revenue of about $18,000 a quarter, or over $70,000 a year as a result of the new rates. The maintenance cost of the water department is about $70,000 annually, according to city officials, which is in excess of its former income, and during the last five or six years the deficit has been growing.
