Kansas City Firemen.
Judge J. H. Slover, of the Circuit Court at Kansas City, Mo. has issued a temporary restraining order against the civil service board, preventing the certification of the men who passed the examination for positions on the fire department. The action of the court was the result of the refusal of E. C. Meservey, a member of the civil board to maintain the terms of an agreement reached several days ago when the application of 250 firemen 90 per cent of the men employed by the department, for a restraining order was up before Judge Slover. The order is returnable August 9, when a hearing on an application for a permanent injunction, preventing the board from enforcing the civil service rules in the department, will be held. In the meantime, according to the order of Judge Slover, the firemen now in the department will not be interfered with in the performance of their duties, and will be retained on the city payroll. The board also is restrained from certifying those who passed the examina tion, and thus creating a condition such as exists in the water department, where two employes are doing the work of one.
