Kearny Firemen Honor War Dead

Memorial plaques honoring local veterans who lost their lives in the service of their country were placed on four new pieces of fire apparatus during recent ceremonies in Kearny, N.J. The program is sponsored by the Kearny Fire Department, United Veterans Organizations and the Gold Star Mothers.

The names of the first four men honored were drawn from a list of more than 300 local veterans who were killed in action during World War I through Vietnam. Five additional names will be assigned to future appatus as they are purchased.

At ceremonies dedicating Engine 3 in memory of Eugene E. Ebert, killed in April 1945, are Fireman James Doran; Mrs. Beatrice Ludwig, president of the Kearny Gold Star Mothers; David Carlson, United Veterans Organizations; and Fireman Sebastian Viscuso.
