Knoxville is Assured of Additional Pumping Capacity

A large concrete pit in which a new 15,000,000-gallon pumn will be placed in an annex to the pumoing station in Knoxville. Tenn. has been completed. When this pumn is installed the water department will have a pumning capacity of 31,000 000 gallons daily. James G. Crumbliss. commissioner in charge of the water department, stated this new pump would be shipped as soon as the annex to the pump station is finished, The amount of water now used daily averages 8,000,000, and, with the addition of the new pump, many extensions can be made without danger of overtaxing the pumping capacity. Extensions of water mains to Vestal are to be made soon, and when this is done about twenty fire plugs will be installed for the protection of the lower end of South Knoxville.
