LAND MADE BY AN EARTHQUAKE.
Volcanic action in the Aleutian group of islands in the Behring sea has recently increased considerably and about forty volcanoes are in a state of active eruption. Columns of fire are visible every night at a great distance, and the topography of the islands has also considerably changed. To the east of the Bogolow, a broad strip of land has been raised from the sea, so that the island is now more than twelve times its former size. The phenomenon has occurred within a comparatively short time, since only a few days before its being seen, several sealing vessels have passed the spot which to-day is high and dry ground.
