Large Plant Pumping Station
The Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. has been awarded the contract of laying intake pipes for the pumping station at the powder plant north of Racine, Wis., and work is to begin as soon as material can be obtained. The contractors have agreed to work day and night, providing weather will permit, until the work is completed. The intake will be one 30inch pipe, and the pumping stations will have a capacity of 200,000,000 gallons each 24 hours. 11. M. Stevens of the Du Font Engineering Co. has arrived in Racine and has taken entire charge of the construction work of the new powder plant, which will be strictly an ordnance proposition for the United States Government. but will be built and operated by the Du Pont company. All property taken over for the powder plant, which consists of 2,200 acres, valued at $700,000, is secured by the Government, and it is stated that payments will be made within ten days or two weeks.
