Lumber Yard Fire at Rib Lake.
The lumber yard of the Rib Lake Lumber Company at Rib Lake, Wis., was destroyed July 24. The planing mill and lumber shed were saved with great difficulty. The boiler room, which is built of brick and is fireproof, remained intact. The loss is $50,000. The origin of the fire is unknown. The mill crew did not notice anything unusual until the smoke rolled up from the floor below. The fire spread so rapidly that some of the men did not have time to grab their coats and hats. The yard was 125 by 175 feet. There were six hydrant streams on the fire in command of Chief John McRea. The water pressure was 125 pounds.
