The annual report of the Madison, Wis., water department for last year shows that the receipts were: Balance January 1, 1912. $6,300.95; water rents, $53,622.83; service connections, $4,557; power, $767.10; miscellaneous receipts, $812.36; hydrant rental, $14,760; city appropriation for construction expenses, $27,159.01; total, $107,970.25. Expenditures: Operating, $34.123 52; construction. $32,735.73; services, $5,695.16; taxes, $8,750; interest to city on investment, $26,684.75; refunds and corrections, $38.66; total. $108,027.82; minus Clow and Gaiter bills, $5,940.90; total, $102,086.92; balance January 1. 1913, $5,892.33; total, $107,979.25. The total number of improvement services laid during the year was 159. The total number of services laid for immediate connection was 232, making a total number of services laid, 391. The total number of services at the end of the year was 6,533. The total number of hydrants in use at the close of the year was 132. of which 29 were added during the year. There were 714,937,100 gallons of water pumped, an increase of 15,395,100 gallons over the previous year. The dailv average pumpage was from 1.491,000 to 2,559,000 gallons. The income from water rents was $53,622.83; services, $4,557; meter repairs. $129; power, $767.10; penalties. $233.02; material. $22,148; hydrant rental, $41,919.01; total. $101,078.30.
