March Meeting Massachusetts Fire Chiefs’ Club
The regular March meeting; of the Massachusetts Fire Chiefs Club was held on Wednesday, March 21. with a luncheon at the Parker House. Boston, Mass. Chief James M. Casey, of Cambridge, president of the club, presided and was assisted by Chief A. Howard Fiske, of Framingham, secretary. The speakers included Mayor James M. Curley of Bostin; Fire O. Commissioner Theodore A. Glynn, of Boston; Chief John O. Taber, of Boston; Ex-Chief Thomas Johnstone, of Cookstown Minn.; and Ex-Chief Leonard B. Buchanan ot Woburn, Mass.
About sixty fire chiefs were present. Fire Commissioner Charles Vanderhoff, of Everett, Mass., was elected to membership m the club, and Chief Johnstone was elected an honorary member. Mayor Curley spoke on “Reducing the Fire Loss.”Ex-Chief Buchanan read a very interesting paper on “Fires in Battery Charging Stations.” There was a general discussion on the questions of civil service ratings and the merit system. An invitation was received from Chief William Daggett, of Springfield. Mass., for the club to visit that city on April 26 and the members voted unanimously to accept the invitation.
