Marianna Water System

Marianna Water System

At a joint meeting of property owners and members of the City Council, of Marianna, Ark., it was decided to cancel the contract under which the Arkansas Light and Power Company now operates the water plant, and to resume operation by the district. A new well will be sunk, and it is planned to reorganize the district, taken in additional territory and extending the water service to the entire city. Nearly two years ago the water commissioners and members of the council contracted to sell the water system to the light and power company for $20,000, conditioned upon legislative enactment authorizing the commissioners to dispose of the property. In the meantime the plant was turned over to the public utility company, and it has since been operating the system as the agent of the commissioners.
