May They Always Be So
When the driver of a pickup truck loaded with trash looked out his cab window in Quincy, Ill., on October 10, he saw the load was on fire, with flames shooting higher than the top of the cab. He drove the truck to the central fire station, a block away.
One of the pumper crews grabbed a booster line, the pump was started, and the fire quickly extinguished. It was the first time in the history of the department that a pumper operated at a fire and never left quarters.
