At the last meeting of the fire commissioners of that progressive and famous Connecticut city, Waterbury, the board voted to order eight subscriptions of FIRE AND WATER, one for each of the local fire companies. Chief Snagg presented the following advance portion of his report for 1892 : Working fires, 20 ; needless alarms, 13 ; false alarms, 3 ; still alarms, 4 ; loss on buildings, $54,742 ; insurance paid on buildings. $52,483 ; loss on contents, $161,196.85 ; insurance paid on contents, 112,702.81 ; total loss, $215,938.85 ; total insurance paid, $165,195.81 ; loss over insurance paid, $5°-753-04The total membership of the department is 271, divided as follows : No. 1, 44 ; No. 2, 32 ; No. 3, 36 ; No. 4. 40; No. 5, 40 ; No. 6, 40 ; Mutual Hook and Ladder Company, 39.
