Meterage at Jamestown

The Board of Water and Lighting Commissioners of Jamestown, N. Y., at a regular meeting recently replied to the Board of Commerce on the meter question, in part as follows: “In fact the result of meters on all services has proved a great benefit to the city at large in conserving its limited supply of pure water, and being the one fair and just way upon which to base the charge. This board feels that inasmuch as no charge is made for water for fire protection in automatic sprinkler systems and standpipes nor for constant readiness to serve, the property owner should pay for the complete installation of such service including meter in order to assure the board that no free water is used.” The board of directors of the Board of Commerce decided upon the appointment of a committee to formulate. the policy of the Board of Commerce regarding the meter question, conferring with the Board of Water and Lighting Commissioners about the matter.
