THE fire committee of the Montreal city council last week adopted the following estimates of fire department expenses for this year: Chiel’s salary, $1800; sub-chief’s salary, $1200; fifteen guardians, rach, and lodging, $650; four engineers, each, $650; foreman salvage corps, $850; two foremen, each, extension ladder, $600; four salvage men, each, $600; seventy-eight firemen, under three years service, each, $500; over three years service, each, $550; harness repairs, $600; supply clerk, $800; extras, St. James street fire, $531; uniforms, $1100; forage and shoeing horses, $6240; oil and hardware, $1000; light for stations, $1270 ; fuel for stations. $1290 ; fuel for steam engines, $300 ; repairs to stations, $1500; repairs to apparatus, $3000 ; exchange of horses, $900 ; winter runners, $150 ; contingencies stations, $900 ; new hose, 5000 feet, $3441; ; salvage corps, $1644 ; hook and ladder truck for St. Gabriel ward. $1000 ; spare extension ladders, $4000 ; salvage wagon, $1000 ; two horses, $450; four men, $2f>oo ; two steam fire engines, 750 gallons per minute, $11,000 ; property in rear of No. 4 station, $14,000; building, $5000 ; property, No. 14 station, $1400 ; new stables, $3000 ; new station, St. Gabriel ward, $8000; alterations, No. 13 station, $1500; two new reels, Nos. 8 and 13 stations, $800 ; new hook and ladder truck, $225 ; alterations, No. 5 station, $4000 ; office clerk, $600; boiler inspector’s department, $2000; building inspector’s department, $2300.
