Moving Picture Machine Merger.
Seven leading manufacturers of movingpicture machines have formed a trust—with a capital of $15,000,000. According to one of the leading members of this combination, it has been formed with a single eye to the safety of the public. The trust, it is said, has bought up all the patterns and will control absolutely the making and output of machines. It asserts that it will not sell a machine to an exhibitor who does not first satisfactorily’ prove the absolute fireproof character of his place of exhibition. Not only must the structures be fireproof, but the machines, also. They are now being made so as to be protected, and it is almost impossible to cause an explosion or anything else that will endanger the audience. The combination also controls what, if as represented, is one of the greatest inventions yet made in the business—namely, a new film made of a composition that will not burn, and no longer of celluloid.
