Mississippi Firefighter Loses Position After Marrying Colleague’s Niece

A Columbus (MS) firefighter lost his job because he married a family member of another firefighter, thereby violating the city’s nepotism policy.

The Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1CXRx2R) reported that Jonathan Goodman, 25, who’d been with the agency since 2013, was terminated after he married the niece of another firefighter who works at a different fire station in the city.

The report said Goodman approached Columbus Fire & Rescue Chief Martin Andrews about the situation after the couple got engaged. Chief Andrews reportedly said that if they married, Goodman would be fired.
