National Board Offers Services to Government

The National Board of Fire Underwriters has, through a special resolution of its executive committee, placed the services, resources and facilities of its engineering organization and records concerning industrial plants and fire fighting facilities of some three hundred cities, at the disposal of the United States Government in the emergency now confronting the nation. The resolution recites that “in the event of war it may be of vital importance to the National Government to have at its command facilities for safeguarding the fire hazards involved in cities, towns and villages, public buildings, hospitals, warehouses and similar institutions, as well as detailed knowledge of local water supply systems, structural conditions and fire fighting facilities,” and that the National Board “is prepared to undertake the organization and direction of the fire prevention requirements of national defense, and to furnish for the use of the Government the information in the possession of the fire insurance organizations, concerning industrial and other establishments.”
