New Chief for York, Pa.
Harry L. Wills, of the Vigilant fire company, is the new chief engineer of the York, Pa., city fire department, and George S. Kroll, of the Laurel, and Harry L. Nickol, of the Union, are the new assistant engineers. The appointments were made by Mayor John R. Lafean last week and select council confirmed them, in discussing his fire appointments, Mayor Lafean expressed his gratification at being able to solve the perplexing problem of securing for the city a board of fire officials, under the terms of the new fire department ordinance, which will most nearly realize the object of the bill. Mr. Lafean said, among other things: “Mr. Wills, a former fire chief, has had long experience in fire fighting, and is generally recognized as one of the ablest firemen in the city. Mr. Kroll, the retiring chief, made a splendid record for himself, and in accepting the position of first assistant chief under the new conditions, he has shown a patriotic spirit and a desire to maintain the high efficiency of the department.
