New Chief of Dallas in Department Forty Years
First Assistant Chief Thomas A. Myers, has been appointed chief of the fire department of Dallas, Tex., taking office May 1. To Chief Myers will go the task of installing the double-platoon system in the department. One of the features of the system will be the creation of a chief’s council, in which the chief and his assistants will meet regularly to discuss with the Fire Commissioner all details pertaining to the department. There are four assistants to the chief under the present system and under the new plan there will be nine. Chief Myers was elected driver of the old Volunteer Engine Company No. 2 on Dec. 17, 1879. He drove the first hose reel brought to Dallas and was assistant engineer of the Dallas Engine Company No. 1.
