NEW CHIEF OF INDIANAPOLIS FIRE DEPARTMENT.
On the evening of November 14 the fire commissioners of Indianapolis, Ind., appointed Charles E. Coots chief engineer of the fire department of that city, vice Thomas Barrett, and Captain John Glazier, the inventor of the Glazier nozzle, first assistant, vice Coots, with Barrett, second. Gustave Ernst, former second assistant chief was reduced to a captaincy, succeeding Glazier. The reduction of former Chief Barrett to a minor position is purely a political move, and not from any criticism of his ability as a firefighter. He has served as chief for several years. The new appointmenls will take effect the next morning, The latest arrangement was a surprise all round.
