New Dam for Canonsburg
The North Strabane Water Company is building in Peters township a new dam to impound the waters of the creek which now supplies Canonsburg, Pa. The water thus impounded will cover 15 acres. A wall of earth and concrete will be built above the valley; its height will be about 30 feet, its length 900. Its storage capacity will be about 150,000,000 gallons: its cost about $115,000. The wall of the dam will be 150 feel wide at the bottom and 18 feet wide at the top, with a concrete core through it 2 1/2 feet wide at the bottom and 1 1/2 feet wide at the top. The concrete core is to be 32 feet high, and the dam, when filled, will he 30 feet deep on the average The outlet of the dam is to be a cast iron pipe 24 inches in diameter, with another 18-inch pipe as an auxiliary.
