NEW FIRE BOARD OF JERSEY CITY.
When the new board of fire commissioners of Jersey City organized for business on Tuesday night. Commissioner John Brennan was unanimously chosen its president,on the nomination of former President Mills, who afterwards made a short address,in which he showed that the board was in a very healthy condition. The new commissioner, John Erickson, who is a prominent member of Central Union No. 157, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, was presented with a floral horseshoe by a committee from that body. President Brennan was also the recipient of a handsome bouquet. The committees for the year were then struck, after which the board adjourned to meet at a dinner given by former Commissioner Cone at the Hotel Washington. Among the numerous guests present was former Mayor Wanser, who had appointed Mr. Cone to his office as a fire commissioner. Mr. Wanser in his after-dinner speech paid that gentleman a very high tribute of praise, and thanked him most sincerely for the manner in which he had brought credit to his appointment. Mr. Cone, who was greatly affected at having to leave those with whom he had been associated for the past three years, replied in feeling terms.
