New Fire Boat for Toronto
The Toronto, Ont., department last week tested its new fire boat, C. J. Clarke, and at the finish Chief Thompson expressed his entire satisfaction with it. For a period of fifteen minutes the boat kept a stream playing without a moment of unsteadiness. Later, when five hundred feet of hose had been stretched from the tug on to Centre Island a pressure of 175 pounds played a 144-foot stream while three other streams were played from the boat. The C. J. Clarke is not owned by the city. Its services are obtained by the city for $5,000 a year. It is fitted with a Bawden pump, guaranteed at 1,000 gallons per minute, with a 14-inch high pressure and a 24-inch low pressure cylinder.
